Make me an offer and let’s do a deal! Goodness, it’s all go today – here’s another absolute belter of a Walkman – the Sony Walkman WM-F107 Solar Sports. I’ve had a few of these over the years – never had one that actually worked properly, until this landed this week. There are not very many of these in the world that still work – this is seriously cool! The little headphone socket rubber bung, that your wee sister always pulled off, is even still there! These are only going up in value! As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. Very rare and sought-after Sony Walkman WM-F107 in beautiful used condition, complete with original heaphones. Mechanically it’s working perfectly, the old belts had perished so I’ve replaced it, cleaned the head, rollers, and capstans so now it plays perfectly at the correct speed with minimal wow and flutter, rewinds and fast-forwards. The Radio Works from just the Solar panel when the battery pack isn’t connected, but you need the battery pack to play tapes. The volume potentiometer has been cleaned with contact cleaner – but admittedly there is a little crackle when you adjust it – but hit the sweet spot and it’s perfect. The battery contacts are corrosion free. I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. My only guarantee is that it should work as you see in the video when it arrives.
