Sony Walkman WM-20 in Black. Had this listed last week – but didn’t realise that youcouldn’t hear the tape playing in the video – also it wasn’t quite right, was scraping on the back of the case when it played – so took it apart, replaced the offending wonky gear with a nice straight one from a donor unit and it’s 100% better now. Plays beautifully, small issue with Fast Forward – you have to keep your finger on the button – but it rewinds as it should and it now plays perfectly! Everyone wants a WM-20 – and in particular the black one, these always sell within an hour or 2 of listing so I guess it’s first come first served! These often suffer from cracked gears – this one is perfect and is good for the next 40 years. These WM-20’s and WM-30’s are getting really popular and are increasing in value. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. In beautiful, almost pristine condition, it’s basically mint – the belt had turned to goo so I’ve installed a new belt – the head, roller and capstan have been cleaned – so it now plays perfectly, in stereo, at the right speed with no wow or flutter, it rewinds and fast-forwards exactly as it should. It still has the battery cover and the battery terminals are corrosion free. I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. My only guarantee is that it should work as you see in the video when it arrives.
