Released in 1983, it was, and still is the smallest Walkman ever produced, exactly the size of a cassette case, and requires a single AA battery. Also considering remarkably high quality of its sound, mostly metal construction, and nice aluminum body, this amazing device was a great engineering achievement by Sony. Also known as the Super Walkman, it created quite a stir when it was released. This particular example would be in higher than average cosmetic condition, but it has a tiny piece of red plastic trim chipped off from the cassette cover corner, a couple of tiny dents on the button side of the body, and maybe a few very minor scratches. Overall it looks quite good for almost 40 years old device. This Walkman was refurbished to its normal working condition. Internal contacts were cleaned with Deoxit. Capstan, pinch roller, and the playback head were cleaned as well, the head (which is worn but still works well) was also demagnetized. The body was cleaned inside and out. Battery compartment is clean and doesn’t have any signs of battery leak/corrosion ever occurring. The battery cover is present, and is intact. No missing parts, screws, or cracked reel gears (a common problem with these units). The player was tested, is fully functional, and sounds great (nice headphones are important). Play, stop, fast forward, and rewind modes work as intended. Auto stop works in the play mode only by design. Norm/CrO2-Metal and Dolby switches work. Volume wheel is not “scratchy”. The play speed was tested using the 3kHz tape, is up to spec. This model will not power up unless the headphones are plugged in. This was a power saving feature, not a defect. Most headphones with a standard 3.5mm plug will work. You will receive the Walkman only. The cassette is present in photos for size comparison purpose only, and is NOT included. Despite my efforts to bring this Walkman as close as possible to a new condition, it is still an old vintage device, and its longevity and functionality can not be guaranteed. But, if handled with care, I’m sure it will offer its owner many years of faithful service. Longevity of the belt is the main concern, but fortunately, this part is quite easily replaceable.
