Offered is a serviced and tested Marantz PMD201 Professional Cassette Recorder in current is very good operational and cosmetic condition plus the owners manual and an OEM AC / 4.5V DC power adapter (it is unusual because of its negative center tap). This is a mono channel cassette deck with two heads (erase and playback/record). After over 25 years parts do wear. Servicing included three new belts (the old belts were, as expected, a bit stretched with some loss of elasticity), standard cleaning of the tape path, lubrication of the bearing surfaces (and reel pins) and then testing of most functions under record and playback (includes resetting of record/playback levels, bias and tape speed). The tape speed is good when tested with a standard calibration tape. The pots are not scratchy. Cosmetically the deck is in fine shape with a modest number of typical surface scratches. Please refer to the photos. The battery compartment is clean. Mono channels. VU metering (working). Limiter (responsive). Tone Control (working). 25% pitch control (tested). Manual record level. 1/8″ microphone input (not tested). Built in microphone (working). Microphone attenuation 0, -10, -20dB (working). RCA line in/out (working). 1/4″ headphone out (working). Half-speed Rec/Play (working). Telephone in/out (not tested). Remote control in (3/32″) (not tested). Built in speaker (working). External speaker output (1/8″), (working). Takes 3x D-cell batteries or a Marantz Rechargeable Battery Pack (RB-430) which is by now probably impossible to obtain (runs fine with alkaline batteries). Testing identified a few quirks. The external speaker on/off switch has absolutely no effect. If there is a mono 1/8 (3mm) jack plugged into the external speaker jack then the internal speaker turns off and the output goes to the external speaker. Otherwise the built-in speaker operates as expected. The transport of this deck, during playback or record, isn’t as quiet as some other decks but it runs smoothly. If a recorded tape is played in a stereo deck there is about a 2dB difference in the signals between the left and right channels.
