Boxed & Complete Sony Walkman WM-30 in Red with 1985 Sony Walkman Catalog. This is so cool, these WM-20 and WM-30’s are getting so popular over the past couple of years – prices are just going up. And here’s a virtually pristine WM-30 in my favourite colour – Red. I love the way the light catches the brushed metal finish and makes it almost glow. The original headphones have clearly never been removed from the box and therefore work perfectly. The Japanese Walkman Catalogue from 1985 is absolutely perfect. I think this really was Sony in their. At this time which is confirmed by the roster of some of their best Walkmans that featured this year, Along with the headlining WM-30, it features the WM-20 and (my favourite Walkman of them all) their big brother the WM-40, but also the WM-D6C, WM-DC2 and WM-DD2 – as well as a bunch of very colourful Boomboxes at the back. Anyway, I think this is very special – museum condition stuff, I’d love to keep them myself, but the wife wants a new sofa so there it is – some other lucky fella’s going to get it instead. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. In lovely used condition – the belt had turned to goo so I’ve installed a new belt – the head, roller and capstan have been cleaned – so it now plays perfectly, in stereo, at the right speed with no wow or flutter, it rewinds and fast-forwards exactly as it should. It still has the battery cover and the battery terminals are corrosion free. I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. My only guarantee is that it should work as you see in the video when it arrives.
