Sony Walkman WM-DX100 – Refurbished and working perfectly! I get really excited sometimes when I get my hands on some extremely rare Walkmans – and they don’t come any rarer than a WM-DX100. One of the last high-end Walkmans Sony made – it came alongside the best of them all the WM-DD9 – which had a separate motor controlling play in both directions (and contrary to a lot of reports that the WM-DD9 didn’t have any belts – it actually had 2) – the DX100 was effectively a baby WM-DD9 that uses a single direct-drive motor via a belt to drive play in both directions. It also provided Dolby C – one of the few Walkmans that did, again like the DD9 but also alongside other classic models like the DC2, 701C, 550C. This one seems to play perfectly now that the belt has been replaced – maybe a little quiet on one side on Dolby C – but it’s the box that make this really special – these are super rare, but I’ve never seen a boxed one ever, let alone boxed and working with all it’s original accessories and documents – this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this to your collection. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. And if it doesn’t sound like it did in the video then it’s not as described and I’ll take it back. (Some people have reported issues with seeing my videos when using mobile devices – so try on a computer is you have any issues). In lovely used condition, it’s not pristine, but it’s pretty bloody close – the belt had turned to goo so the old belt residue cleaned meticulously, a new belt installed and the head, rollers and capstans cleaned so it plays perfectly at the right speed without wow and flutter in both directions. It rewinds and fast-forwards as it should. The volume potentiometer has been cleaned with contact cleaner – so the volume adjusts without crackle or dropout. The Remote headphones works and conrtols all functions. The battery contacts in both the unit and battery pack are corrosion free. The box is in nice used condition, all accessories and documents are present and in good condition. I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. My only guarantee is that it should work as you see in the video when it arrives.
