Completely serviced WM-DD100 with new center gear, pinch roller and capstan ring. Completely cleaned and necessary parts are lubricated. All functions are working as they should be. Battery compartment is clean. Optical the Walkman has a only very few user marks (please look at the photos to make your own judgement). New leather soft case (reproduction). In particular the US and Canada! Look at my other listings for more Walkmans and other vintage audio items! I’m very sorry to the majority of honest people out there but there are zero feedback members that don’t pay or scamming when the received the items. This results in the fact that i don’t sell items to zero feedback members. New center gear and not a repaired/glued one. When the gear is glued this results in higher wow-flutter, so less good sound quality. Why do the original gears always crack? They’re usually made of POM material. This material is very reliable, long lasting and has very good friction properties. However, it has one negative property. It tends to shrink. It shrinks when it is heated, for example when player is left on sun or in car. By heating POM material to 60 C, it will shrink permanently about several percent. It also shrinks with time. Problem is, when this gear is installed on some other part, for example on metal axle. Plastic material shrinks, while meta one doesn’t. High tension in plastic part will cause that it cracks. Some parts are made of other than POM material. This can be short lasting material, fragile, that breaks into several pieces after some time. Reason why this is important. It can curl (eat) some or all tapes. It can cause speed variations. It can cause azimuth instabilities. Playback can be randomly stopped. Is responsible for the correct tape speed. It’s holy-grail time folks – these things are incredibly rare – made by Sony at the same time as the WM-DD9 (the greatest Personal Cassette player ever made) the WM-DX100 was similarly a no-compromise professional cassette player coupling Dolby C and the EX DBB (Megabass) system. This example is in beautiful used condition and genuinely is the best sounding Walkman I’ve ever had. With the all important headphone adaptor and AA battery case. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. Very rare and sought-after Sony Walkman WM-DX100 in used condition. Mechanically it’s working perfectly, the old belt had perished so I’ve replaced it, cleaned the head, rollers, and capstans so now it plays perfectly, in both directions at the correct speed without wow or flutter, rewinds and fast-forwards, Dolby B and C and the Megabass functions all work perfectly. The volume potentiometer has been cleaned – so the volume adjusts perfectly without dropout. The battery contacts are corrosion free. Complete with Headphone adaptor and AA Battery Pack – all tested and working. I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. My only guarantee is that it should work as you see in the video when it arrives. Sony Walkman WM-DX100 – Refurbished and working perfectly! I get really excited sometimes when I get my hands on some extremely rare Walkmans – and they don’t come any rarer than a WM-DX100. One of the last high-end Walkmans Sony made – it came alongside the best of them all the WM-DD9 – which had a separate motor controlling play in both directions (and contrary to a lot of reports that the WM-DD9 didn’t have any belts – it actually had 2) – the DX100 was effectively a baby WM-DD9 that uses a single direct-drive motor via a belt to drive play in both directions. It also provided Dolby C – one of the few Walkmans that did, again like the DD9 but also alongside other classic models like the DC2, 701C, 550C. This one seems to play perfectly now that the belt has been replaced – maybe a little quiet on one side on Dolby C – but it’s the box that make this really special – these are super rare, but I’ve never seen a boxed one ever, let alone boxed and working with all it’s original accessories and documents – this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this to your collection. In lovely used condition, it’s not pristine, but it’s pretty bloody close – the belt had turned to goo so the old belt residue cleaned meticulously, a new belt installed and the head, rollers and capstans cleaned so it plays perfectly at the right speed without wow and flutter in both directions. It rewinds and fast-forwards as it should. The volume potentiometer has been cleaned with contact cleaner – so the volume adjusts without crackle or dropout. The Remote headphones works and conrtols all functions. The battery contacts in both the unit and battery pack are corrosion free. The box is in nice used condition, all accessories and documents are present and in good condition.
