Sony Walkman WM-30 in Black. This week is all about the pristine black Walkmans (see the WM-7 I’ve also listed) – frankly they’re a pain in the arse to photograph. Anyhoo, how cool is this – I love a WM-20 or a WM-30 – the classic Walkman, the ones that everyone wants and there’s no better example of a Black WM-30 than this – it is perfection, both physically and mechanically – these often suffer from cracked gears – this one is perfect and should be good to go for the next 35 years! As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. In absolutely pristine condition – not a single scratch, dent or bit of faded lettering – it is in as-new Museum Condition. Mechanically the belt had turned to goo so the old belt residue has been meticulously cleaned and a new belt installed – the head, roller and capstan have been cleaned – so it now plays perfectly, in stereo, at the right speed with no wow or flutter, it rewinds and fast-forwards exactly as it should. The volume potentiometer has been cleaned so the volume adjusts smoothly without crackle or dropout. It still has the battery cover and the battery terminals are corrosion free. I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. My only guarantee is that it should work as you see in the video when it arrives. Sony Walkman WM-20 in Blue with Boxed LC-W10 Case. Relisting because you couldn’t hear the music play on the video. These WM-20’s and WM-30’s are getting really popular and are increasing in value. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. In beautiful condition, someone left a battery in it so there was a bit of corrosion on the Battery Terminal – but aside from a bit of rust on the terminal once that was scraped clean and a new belt installed – it still plays absolutely perfectly – as good as the day it was new. The head, roller and capstan have been cleaned – so it now plays perfectly, in stereo, at the right speed with no wow or flutter. There is an issue with rewind and fast-forward, it only works for a second and then stops – but it plays perfectly every time, still has it’s battery cover and it looks stunning! As for the boxed case, the box is a little sun faded and has some tape marks – but I reckon the case had never been out of the box before I took it out for the photos. I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. My only guarantee is that it should work as you see in the video when it arrives. Had this listed last week – but didn’t realise that youcouldn’t hear the tape playing in the video – also it wasn’t quite right, was scraping on the back of the case when it played – so took it apart, replaced the offending wonky gear with a nice straight one from a donor unit and it’s 100% better now. Plays beautifully, small issue with Fast Forward – you have to keep your finger on the button – but it rewinds as it should and it now plays perfectly! Everyone wants a WM-20 – and in particular the black one, these always sell within an hour or 2 of listing so I guess it’s first come first served!
