Boxed Sony Walkman TPS-L2 & MDR3L2 Headphones. Here it is the one that started it all – the Sony Walkman TPS-L2 from 1979 – or maybe better known as the Guardian of the Galaxy Walkman. Initially they called it different things in different territories. Originally marketed as the “Soundabout” in the U. The “Stowaway” in the U. And the “Freestyle” in Sweden but in Japan they called it the Walkman – so many US businessmen bought them in Japan and took them home that the Walkman name stuck and was eventually used across the world. This is one of the early ones that does not have “Walkman” embossed on the front – so they slapped a “Walkman” sticker on it. And here is it Boxed and complete with it’s Case, original MDR3 Headphones, Instruction Manual, Cassette Case and demonstration tape. Playing perfectly and useable every day. I set my prices fairly – some people on here seem to think that a refurbished TPS-L2 on it’s own is worth more that I’m asking for Boxed one with the original headphones and accessories – so grab a bargain! You won’t be disappointed when it arrives and if there are any issues they will be resolved to your satisfaction. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. The box is in incredible condition, still bright with no sun fading and no significant tears or marks. The Walkman is in equally amazing condition – a few marks on the grey plastic from sitting in the case for 40+ years. Mechanically the belts had hardened so would no longer play – so I’ve installed 2 new belts, cleaned the head, roller and volume potentiometers – so it now plays perfectly, in stereo, at the right speed with no wow or flutter. The volume adjusts smoothly without crackle or dropout. Battery terminals are corrosion free. The “Hotline” microphone also still works perfectly. MDR-3L2 headphones work perfectly. The Belt-Clip case is in really nice condition. It has it’s original Instructions, Cassette Case and Demonstration Tape. This Walkman is perfectly useable playing as good as the day it was new over 40 years ago! I have 10 years experience refurbishing 100’s of Walkmans! You get what you pay for – there won’t be any disappointment when it arrives – it will work as described! The box is badly sun faded and has some tape marks on the front. The Walkman In in nice used condition. This really is a privilege to own – even if it is only for a short while – here’s a Brand New TPS-L2 that has sat in it’s box for 40 years waiting to come to life again. For the uninitiated, this is the very first Walkman produced by Sony in 1979 – actually when they introduced it it had a number of different names, in Asia it was the Walkman, but. In the USA it was the SoundAbout, in the UK the Stowaway and in Sweden the Freestyle – so many were bought in Japan by foreign businessmen that they soon adopted “Walkman” across all markets. Anyway, here it is, in new condition, complete with it’s accessories, including the all important MDR3 headphones still in it’s original box – it really doesn’t get any better than this. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. Here’s a brand new Sony Walkman TPS-L2 that’s been hidden away in it’s box for 40 years. The box is in lovely condition, a few crease marks on the edges and a tiny tear in the front. The polystyrene insert is mint. The Walkman has no signs of use – there are a few marks on the sides of the plastic button surround – from sitting in it’s case for 40 years – but is otherwise mint. It has been refurbished, belts changed, head and roller cleaned and the volume potentiometers cleaned. So it plays perfectly, in stereo, at the right speed without wow or flutter. It rewinds and fastforwards as it should. The weird hotline mic works and the volume adjusts evenly without dropout. The case is like new. The headphones are pristine and work perfectly and I’ve added new orange foams. I have 10 years experience refurbishing 100’s of Walkmans!
