1985 Sony Walkman WM-50 in excellent condition and in full working order after refurbishment and replacement of belts. The unit comes with its original carry bag, original carry strap and a pair of Sony MDR-W10 Turbo headphones. The belt has been replaced with a new precision DeckTech belt. The play head, pinch roller and capstan have been checked and cleaned. The head has been demagnetised. The mechanism has been cleaned and lubricated. The motor speed has been calibrated. The volume control pot has been cleaned and with Deoxit. The circuit boards have been checked and cleaned. The headphones have been thoroughly cleaned. The unit is in very excellent condition both inside and out. There are only very minor abrasions on the door and window and a small nick on the edge of the door next the battery cover (see photo 19). There are a couple of small marks on the rear cover (see and zoom on photo 5). Please study all the photographs carefully and zoom for finer detail. The battery compartment and contacts are clean and clear of corrosion, as is the circuitry. The battery cover and opening switch are intact and fully functional. Black Sony Walkman WM-20. This was the World’s Smallest Personal Cassette Player when it was released in 1983. I see a lot of WM-20 and WM-30’s, but this Black WM-20 is in gorgeous, almost pristine condition. It’s working just as well as it did when it was new nearly 40 years ago. The classic Walkman, the one that everyone wants and there are few better examples of a WM-20 than this – it’s absolutely stunning and plays as good as the day it was new! These often suffer from cracked gears which will cause wobbly playback (or no playback at all) – the gears in this are intact and it is working perfectly! Unlike everyone else out there I price my Walkman’s fairly – I just need to get my slice of the pie – this is priced to sell quickly and cheaper that the other Refurbished WM-10’s, 20’s and 30’s on. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. In virtually pristine condition. Mechanically the belt had turned to goo so the old belt residue has been meticulously cleaned and a new belt installed – the head, roller and capstan have been cleaned – so it now plays perfectly, in stereo, at the right speed with no wow or flutter, it rewinds as it should and fast-forwards when the button is held. All gears have been checked and are intact. The volume potentiometer has been cleaned so the volume adjusts smoothly without crackle or dropout. It still has the battery cover and the battery terminals are corrosion free. Original headphones work perfectly. This Walkman is useable on a daily basis – sounds as good as the day it was new and should not give you any trouble for years to come. I have 10 years experience refurbishing 100’s of Walkmans! You get what you pay for – there won’t be any disappointment when it arrives – it will work as described! If it IS as described and you change your mind – relist it yourself and feel free to reuse my Listing, Pictures and Video Link – you’ll probably make a profit! I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. Completely serviced WM-DD30, with new center gear, pinch roller and capstan ring. Completely cleaned and necessary parts are lubricated. All functions are working as they should be. Battery compartment is clean (there where no leaking battery’s in the past). Optical the Walkman has only a few user marks (please look at the photos to make your own judgement). MDR-007 headphone has new cushions. In particular the US and Canada! Look at my other listings for more Walkmans and other vintage audio items! I’m very sorry to the majority of honest people out there but there are zero feedback members that don’t pay or scamming when the received the items. This results in the fact that i don’t sell items to zero feedback members. New center gear and not a repaired/glued one. When the gear is glued this results in higher wow-flutter, so less good sound quality. Why do the original gears always crack? Theyre usually made of POM material. This material is very reliable, long lasting and has very good friction properties. However, it has one negative property. It tends to shrink. It shrinks when it is heated, for example when player is left on sun or in car. By heating POM material to 60 C, it will shrink permanently about several percent. It also shrinks with time. Problem is, when this gear is installed on some other part, for example on metal axle. Plastic material shrinks, while meta one doesnt. High tension in plastic part will cause that it cracks. Some parts are made of other than POM material. This can be short lasting material, fragile, that breaks into several pieces after some time. Reason why this is important. It can curl (eat) some or all tapes. It can cause speed variations. It can cause azimuth instabilities. Playback can be randomly stopped. Is responsible for the correct tape speed. The WM-10 was released by Sony in 1983. It was the thinnest of its time being the same size as a cassette tape case while also running on just a single AA battery. All are fully functional. Ive cleaned out the old belt and replaced it with a new one of the correct size. The drive gears are intact/not split meaning there is no clicking during playback, a common problem in these models as the years have passed. The volume pot is static free and Ive also ensured the motor runs at the correct speed. Playback functions operate as expected.
