Is in excellent condition apart from some very small marks and signs of cosmetic wear as seen in photos, All buttons are present and work as they should, the battery compartment is clean, the volume raises/lowers without crackle and is fully operational functioning as intended. This unit sounds great and has Very Little Wow and Flutter (see information below) and there are a few marks on the outer case. This is what you would expect of an item of this age, overall this is in brilliant visual and working condition. Work Completed On This Unit As follows. All Internal dirt or dust removed and cleaned. New Idlers fitted were needed. New Pinch Rollers fitted or cleaned were needed. Capstan Cleaned and checked. Operational Parts Re-oiled / Greased Were required. Any Dry solder Joints Re-soldered. Capacitors replaced Were Required. Applied Contact Cleaner on all Switch’s, Contacts and Potentiometers. Re-align the Play head were required (Azimuth). Demagnetized Play Back Head and Tape Path. Speed Set with lab reference tape and oscilloscope. Full External sanitize and clean. Any other bespoke servicing or repair as required completed. All Functions checked were possible. Please Note: The unit is fully operational and functions as intended. Wow and Flutter: This is the waver in a reproduced tone or group of tones that is caused by irregularities in the tape drive speed during recording, duplication, or playing. For example, a change in the angular velocity of the capstan, or dragging of the tape audio cassette shell. The terms “wow and flutter” are often referred to together, flutter being a higher-rate version of wow. There are many factors that can increase wow and flutter mainly from age and use, this can be dirty or dry moving parts of the unit, including a dirty capstan, polished capstan, capstan bearings, dirty pinch roller/s, dirty head and dirty motor wheel after a belt change. A Worn belt, belt size, quality and pinch roller issue are also the main factors of wow and flutter. All these potential causes are meticulously checked during my refurbishments. Deformations in the cassette compartment can also be a cause, but this is obviously down to which cassette you use and its quality, I always advise a full REW and FF of an older tape before playing, which can help. The WM-10 was released by Sony in 1983. It was the thinnest of its time being the same size as a cassette tape case while also running on just a single AA battery. All are fully functional. Note: The belt clip does not come with a strap/hooks. Ive cleaned out the old belt and replaced it with a new one of the correct size. I also cleaned the tape head and pinch roller. The volume pot is static free and Ive ensured the motor runs at the correct speed. The drive gears are intact/not split. Playback functions operate as expected. The item is fully functional with some cosmetic wear. Notably next to the DC jack input and on the top near the battery indicator. Please inspect the the photos carefully or message me for further details. There are no cracks in the window, the cassette door closes firmly and the battery compartment is corrosion free. Sony Walkman WM-2, MDR4 Headphones, Belt Clip, Battery Pack & Instruction Booklet. This one’s in lovely used condition and now working perfectly once more. The often suffer from cracked gears – meaning either clicky playback or it just doesn’t play at all – this one still has it’s original gear intact and working. It’s still got all it’s original accessories including the elusive MDR4 Headphones – which also work perfectly. As with all my refurbished Walkmans you don’t have to take my work for how good they sound because I provide you with a video so you can hear for yourself. I’m not a professional sound engineer – I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world – the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed – otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. In nice used condition – see photos. Comes with original Belt Clip, Battery Pack, Instruction Manual and MDR4 Headphones. Mechanically the belt had hardened, so I’ve installed a new belt, cleaned the Head, Roller and capstan – so it now plays perfectly, in stereo, at the right speed with no wow or flutter, it rewinds and fast-forwards as it should. The volume potentiometer has been cleaned so the volume adjusts smoothly without crackle or dropout. It still has the battery cover and the battery terminals are corrosion free. This Walkman is useable on a daily basis – sounds as good as the day it was new and should not give you any trouble for years to come. I have 10 years experience refurbishing 100’s of Walkmans! You get what you pay for – there won’t be any disappointment when it arrives – it will work as described! If it IS as described and you change your mind – relist it yourself and feel free to reuse my Listing, Pictures and Video Link – you’ll probably make a profit! I’m not an audio engineer which is why I include a video so you can hear it play and judge for yourself. I do not extensively test these over periods of hours/days – I don’t have the time. And it sounds quite as good as it looks. Also known as the Super Walkman, this amazing device created quite a stir when it was released. This particular unit is in great cosmetic condition considering its age, practically scratch-free, has two very small dents on the edge of the body near control buttons. Plastic window also has less wear than normal for the unit this old. The unit was cleaned, refurbished, tested, and sounds great. All of the functions work fine: play, fast forward, rewind. Auto stop is working in play mode as it should. The switches and corresponding modes for tape type (Normal and CrO2/Metal), and Dolby B noise reduction work fine. Battery compartment is clean. Playback head has very minimal wear. No missing parts, screws, or cracked reel gears (a common problem with these units). Belt clip was unfortunately cracked, and had to be repaired (see Photo 11). The following was done to this Walkman to ensure its performance. Cleaned thoroughly inside and outside. Transport contacts cleaned with Deoxit. The speed was checked using 3 kHz test tape, and is within spec. Capstan and pinch roller cleaned, playback head cleaned and demagnetized. Manufactured ca 1983, this Walkman is almost exact size of an audio cassette case, uses a single AA battery, and is a true marvel of Sonys engineering of that period. And it sounds quite as good as it looks. Also known as the Super Walkman, this amazing device created quite a stir when it was released. This particular unit is in great cosmetic condition considering its age, practically scratch-free, has two very small dents on the edge of the body near control buttons. Plastic window also has less wear than normal for the unit this old. The unit was cleaned, refurbished, tested, and sounds great. All of the functions work fine: play, fast forward, rewind. Auto stop is working in play mode as it should. The switches and corresponding modes for tape type (Normal and CrO2/Metal), and Dolby B noise reduction work fine. Battery compartment is clean. Playback head has very minimal wear. No missing parts, screws, or cracked reel gears (a common problem with these units). Belt clip was unfortunately cracked, and had to be repaired (see Photo 11). The following was done to this Walkman to ensure its performance. Cleaned thoroughly inside and outside. Transport contacts cleaned with Deoxit. The speed was checked using 3 kHz test tape, and is within spec. Capstan and pinch roller cleaned, playback head cleaned and demagnetized.
