Nakamichi CR 7A – Discrete 3 Head Cassette Recorder. With RM 7C wireless Remote. Serviced / Calibrated using Nakamichi Alignment Tapes/ Tools. Note: This CR 7A uses Idler Tire for Spool drives and generally requires change if regularly used in about three years. It is highly recommended to upgrade the drive to Gear Drive Spooling. The Motor and gear teeth bearing Spool hubs are not available anywhere. As such the recorder is fantastic sounding as it is. CR 7A has many modern features not found in other Nakamichi Recorders and I would rate CR 7A to be one of the Top 3-4 Cassette Recorders due to the ease of Auto Calibration. Nakamichi Dual Capstan drive with Pressure Pad lifter and Nakamichi Heads result in Fantastic Record/Play response. Modern PCB assembly with great Metering with Low Noise circuits makes this a pleasure to own and operate. Only listening to CR 7A will be the way to understand what I mean here. Another fantastic Manual Play Head Azimuth adjustment feature makes it one of the few Naks suitable for playing tapes recorded on other machines or Pre Recorded Tapes in High speed duplication misses the correct azimuth in recording. But to make it work, it needs correct belt, Transport Cleaning and Head alignment to Nakamichi standards. Also one needs to calibrate the Analog Digital Converter setup for accurate Auto Calibration along with Head Alignment. The service manual lists over 25 steps for setting up this recorder. This machine was serviced with all these steps to make it work like it should. Note Blemishes and small nicks on the Top Edge and it is not mint but great cosmetic condition for 30+ year Deck. Nakamichi Discrete 3 Head Cassette Recorder. With Play Head Azimuth adjust. Model ” Cassette Deck 1 “. This deck’s great feature is the Play Head Azimuth Adjustment and no different than DR 1 Model in all respects except the Casing. However this had not been as much appreciated as even CR 5A which does not have this feature! Nakamichi’s strengths are its Dual Capstan Drive with Pressure Pad less transport and its Unique Parmaloy Heads. Also Nakamichi Electronics are pretty good internally with adjustments for Metering, Playback Level/ High Frequency Adjustment as well recording Bias/ Recording Sensitivity Level. From my 15 years of regularly restoring these 25 Plus Year old Cassette Recorders, I notice that only with correct service using Nakamichi Tools you can bring the Nakamichi Magic back in its Sound performance. Low Noise and fantastic Dolby C (Dolby Laboratories Developed Dolby C with Nakamichi) in Playback and records beautifully. So here I offer a nice No nonsense Cassette Deck 1 if you do not want to spend lot for Dragon or CR 7A but want a decent Nakamichi recorder which can play tapes recorded on other machines without proper Azimuth setting, This feature makes it a great Nakamichi for playback. However, properly Aligned Cassette Deck 1 can record as good as any other 3 Head Nak. After Calibration I enjoyed its musicality as much I enjoy a Dragon or CR 7A due entirely to Azimuth adjust for Pre recorded Tapes. Gear Drive Motor Replaced. Belts – New Belts. Play – Record Head Height/Azimuth Aligned. Azimuth Pot location Aligned with correct Display. Play Level and Frequency Response adjusted. Record Bias/Level setting corrected for TDK MA/Maxell XL -II/TDK D tapes. Complete Frequency Response checked after alignment. Beautiful Sounding and great Cosmetics.
